Product Knowledge
What are valved respirators?
The exhalation valve does not impact a respirator's ability to provide respiratory protection. The valve is designed to open only during exhalation to allow exhaled air to exit the respirator and then close tightly during inhalation, so inhaled air is not permitted to enter the respirator through the valve.
Why do some N95 masks have valves?
In most industrial applications where the workers are exposed to harmful particles in the air, N95 masks with valves are frequently preferred. The valve opens only on exhalation, which allows more exhaled heat and moisture to escape the mask while filtering all of the air that the worker inhales.
Should I get a mask with exhalation or breathing valves?
Exhalation valves, which make masks easier to breathe through and more comfortable, are appropriate when the mask is meant to protect the wearer. For instance, valved masks can protect workers from dust at a construction site or hospital workers from infected patients.
